Questions families ask

For the person setting AttentionShield up for a mom, dad, or grandparent. Every answer here describes what the product does today. Tap a question to open it.

Can my mom turn it off?

Yes, on her own, at any time. In her Google account she opens Google Account permissions, chooses AttentionShield, and removes its access. From that moment we cannot read her mailbox. She does not need to ask you or us.

If she likes the labels but not the daily email, the morning note can be switched off by itself in Settings.

Turning it off does not stop the subscription. To stop paying, whoever set it up signs in, opens the Billing page and presses "Manage or cancel". It will not renew, and it keeps working until the end of the month already paid for.

Do you read my mom’s email?

A computer program does, because that is the job: it reads new messages so it can write a short, plain summary. To write that summary, the message is sent to Anthropic, the company that makes the Claude AI.

We keep the summary and a few details (sender, subject, date) for up to 90 days, then delete them. We do not keep the full message in our database, and we do not sell her email or use it for advertising.

The full details, including every company involved, are on the privacy page.

What if it hides something important?

It does not delete mail, ever. The labels it adds, like “Needs you today” or “Ads and extras”, leave every message in her inbox and leave unread mail unread.

Mail only moves out of the inbox after someone approves it, with a tap or by turning on a setting that does it. Even then it is archived, not deleted: it is still in Gmail’s “All Mail” and still comes up when she searches.

The summaries are written by AI and can be wrong. The original email is always still there underneath, so for anything that matters (money, health, a bill, a legal letter) open the original.

Will it send email as my mom, or reply for her?

No. It never writes or sends replies for her and never emails her contacts. The only email it adds is a note to her own address: the summary, in the same conversation, and one short morning note a day.

Does she have to learn a new app?

No. Everything shows up in the Gmail she already uses. There is nothing to install on her phone.

Do I need her password?

No, and we will never ask for it. You subscribe; then she signs in with her own Google account and approves the connection herself. Please only set this up for someone who knows about it and agrees.

What does it cost?

$9 a month, paid up front when you sign up. There is no free trial and nothing extra to buy: every email and the morning note are included. The details are in the Terms.
